On the 13th of February, all of our Trustees will gather with many others in Dresden to take part in the Commemoration Events put on by the City Of Dresden for the 80th anniversary of the bombing.

Between the 13th and 15th February 1945, nearly 4000 tons of bombs were dropped on the city of Dresden, killing some 20,000 people. A 1953 report revealed that the attack destroyed or severely damaged 23% of the city’s industrial buildings and over 50% of the residential buildings. Among those totally destroyed was Dresden’s beautiful Frauenkirche, The Church of Our Lady.

The history of The Dresden Trust is intertwined with this historical event, as the Dresden Trust was originally formed in Britain to achieve reconciliation, responding to a “Call from Dresden” to help restore the ruined city, and the Trust raised over £1 million to help rebuild the Frauenkirche, as well as commission the Golden Orb and Cross, which stand on top.
