HRH the Duke of Kent, Royal Patron of the Dresden Trust, has been honoured with the Free State of Saxony’s Order of Merit in recognition of his two decades of work for reconciliation and friendship between Britain and Dresden.

Receiving the award on 21 May 2015 aboard the German naval ship FGS Sachsen in the Port of London, the Duke said: “The people truly deserving of recognition are those who have worked tirelessly in organisations such as the Dresden Trust to rebuild understanding and friendship between Britain and Germany over the past decades. My own contribution is small when compared to their efforts and achievements.”

Both the Duke and Saxony State Premier Stanislaw Tillich paid tribute to the Dresden Trust’s promotion of understanding through its Dresden Scholars Scheme, under which boys and girls from Dresden and other parts of Saxony attend schools in Britain.
